Tuesday, April 7th

Although our church buildings are closed, the church is still there for everyone.

This message comes from Michael Tavinor, Dean of Hereford Cathedral

The news of our Prime Minister’s illness reminds us, starkly, of the great crisis affecting us all – young and old.

In our feelings of helplessness, let us use today – each one of us – to pray earnestly to God for all caught up in this dark time for our country and our world:

– for all suffering from COVID -19 and other illnesses

– for all ministering to the sick

– for our Prime Minister and his family

– for all in positions of leadership

– for all who, in often unseen and unsung ways, are helping and supporting us all at this time.

Words often fail us, but for me, this prayer, derived from St Augustine, from the fifth century, has so often spoken to me, and brought comfort:

Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep today,

and give Your angels and saints charge over us all.

Tend Your sick ones, O Lord Christ.

Rest Your weary ones.

Bless Your dying ones.

Soothe Your suffering ones.

Pity Your afflicted ones.

and all for Your love’s sake. Amen

Wednesday, April 1st

Although our church buildings are closed, the church is still there for everyone.

There will be an on-line service for Palm Sunday on April 5th at 10.30. Details of how to join in will be posted later. As we won’t be able to distribute palm crosses this year, here’s a video to show you how to make your own. A long strip of paper works just as well as a palm leaf.

Monday, March 30th

During this period of Coronavirus and with villagers in self isolation and social distancing we will be publishing a daily message from the church.

The clocks have gone forward. Some have lost track of which day it is let alone what time of day. Some may not know when they’ll next be in their car or see their family.

But here’s some positives from the Diocese of Hereford, to give thanks for and things to meditate on or pray about:

💜 Summer is here, the days are getting longer and lighter. We can get our windows open and let the light in

💜 This is a great time, even in lockdown, to revisit having a helpful routine to stay mentally & physically well https://www.blurtitout.org/…/mental-health-benefits-routine/

💜Ideas for the kids from Messy Church

Friday, March 27th

Sadly, all church buildings, including our own in Upton Bishop,  are now closed and public worship is cancelled, but the church is still here for you.

We are not people of fear:
we are people of courage.
We are not people who protect our own safety:
we are people who protect our neighbours’ safety.
We are not people of greed:
we are people of generosity.
We are your people God,
giving and loving,
wherever we are,
whatever it costs
For as long as it takes
wherever you call us.

Although we cannot join together to celebrate Mothering Sunday, why not post a favourite photo of your Mum?

Loving God,

Thank you for mums and children and for all the joy of family life.

Be with those who are grieving because they have no mother;

Be close to those who are struggling because they have no children;

Be near to those who are sad because they are far apart from those they love.

Let your love be present in every home,

And help your church to have eyes to see and ears to hear the needs of all who come.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

We can show that we are thinking of one another by lighting candles at 7pm tonight and placing them in our windows.

of our love, and your love,
for your name’s sake.
