We are not expecting a long-term water supply crisis in Wales, and we haven’t had hosepipe bans or water restrictions for 16 years.
Overall demand for water in Wales is not expected to rise because increasing use in the home is being offset by the reduction in demand from heavy industry and by the good progress we are making on reducing leakage.
However we are far from complacent – which is why we are investing so much in our network and tackling leakage. Our leak detection teams work around the clock using the latest technology to track down the source of leaks and then repair them.
Over the last six years we have spent £69 million locating and fixing leaks in our network and have reduced leakage by 26 per cent. This has saved enough water to supply the daily domestic needs of a city the size of Cardiff. Customers can also do their bit by alerting us to leaks.
We have a dedicated ‘leak line’ FREEPHONE 0800 281 432 (which is open 24 hours 7 days), for customers report a leak on. We will then investigate and arrange for the leak to be fixed.
We do recognise that water is a finite resource, and we frequently remind customers to think about their water usage and to use water wisely.
We offer ‘DIY Water Audits’ leaflets for homes, schools and businesses. These outline many simple ways in which customers could save water in their home or business by using it wisely.
